I still remember Mr Atkinson scratching his head in complete befuddlement at his new user level of 1.
You could only drop a user to a lower user level if you were a higher level. Until we found out this - *I am Partis,ILTFEM - which logged you in as level 7 (System designer). Mr Atkinson, was our teacher who was a level 6 user (System administrator) - if you were in his bad books he would *Level ,1 so you couldn't do anything for the lesson! There were different levels of user access, so if you were level 1 all you could do is Shift-Break into whatever menu was on the dual discs of the fileserver. Then writers and editors can amend text, place, crop or rotate images, and write copy for a precise fit. Once a page design is set, the designer designates headlines, subheads, copy blocks, photos and graphics as editable elements. I can still remember getting all of the micros to load Castle Quest simultaneously so we had an orchestral version of the loading music filling the room! Quark CopyDesk enables content components to be edited without altering an established layout. We were lucky enough to have an entire room of BBC micros (room 27!) all connected via econet and served by the Quark file sever written by Gary.
